about the general store
perth's finest supplier of jarrah and marri furniture
The General Store first opened the doors in Osborne Park in 1994. Owned and operated by Jeremy and Anita Watkins, The General Store is very much a family business focused on supporting local furniture designers and manufacturers using only the highest quality locally sourced timbers.
Our new contemporary warehouse style showroom in Hector Street West, Osborne Park has given us the opportunity to expand both our furniture and homeware ranges while continuing to offer customers the personalised service and advice they have come to expect from us.
As mentioned previously, our focus has always been and will continue to be, on remaining locally made in what is an increasingly mass-market industry. We believe that is what has always set us apart from our competitors. Our customers recognise and like the fact that the timber sourcing, design and manufacturing process is done here in Western Australia and that often the timbers tell a story in terms of the origin of the raw product.
Our timber is crafted in a unique way, mixing the warmth of traditional products with the classic timelessness of modern design with a contemporary edge. Many of our pieces are unique by nature of their source, with timbers salvaged from old iconic Western Australian buildings such as the Perth Town Hall, The Dingo Flour Mill, The Pavilions at the Claremont Show Grounds and the Fresh Water Bay Tea Rooms to name just a few.
All of our pieces across the various ranges can be customised and are hand crafted to suit individual clients' expectations and requirements in a variety of timbers and stains. We are always happy to advise customers on what would best suit their needs within the home.
